For our students, writing can be a refuge and a tool to process feelings of confusion and uncertainty. Over the past months and especially these past few days, our students—many of whom are immigrants or have family abroad— have expressed these feelings. We recognize the crucial role that our volunteers play in creating safe, inclusive, and empowering spaces for our young authors. And we recognize that our role is to support you. For that reason, we’re offering a series of workshops so that we can create these spaces together.
Whether you are a current volunteer or haven’t been to our center in a while, we invite you to join us for a Volunteer Roundtable on Creating Spaces of Inclusivity. This is one of three different workshops where we will learn and discuss ways to support our students and engage them in what can often be challenging, but meaningful conversations.
Guest facilitator: Erika O. Carlsen, Center for Public Leadership at Harvard Kennedy School.
