Bank of America Selects 826 Boston Nominee to Receive Local Hero Award

November 21, 2011

826 Boston’s June 2011 Volunteer of the Month Brandon Abbs recently received a prestigious Local Hero Award from the Bank of America Foundation. A neuro-scientist and community activist, Brandon began volunteering as a tutor shortly after 826 Boston opened its doors in 2007.

“The kids are ready for everything,” states Brandon about his work with 826 Boston students.“Watching their creativity in action, the pride they take in their work, and the confidence it inspires, keeps me coming back as often as I can.”

Brandon also serves as the board president of Friends of the Egleston Library, which received the Egleston Main Streets “Volunteer Organization of the Year Award” for their efforts to prevent the closing of the Egleston Square Branch Library and several other library branches.

We join Bank of America in congratulating Brandon on his accomplishments! Thank you, Brandon, for all you’ve done for 826 Boston and the Egleston Square community.
