Rachel Schowalter is participating in our annual volunteer fundraising, which is a Literary Heptathlon this year. Over the past few years, Rachel has raised more than $2,000 for the free literacy program at 826 Boston. Rachel participates in our Saturday Tutoring program, Publishing Corps, College Essay Boot Camp, and the Boston Book Festival!
After working for an educational publishing company, Rachel recently accepted a position at the Harvard Medical School within the Office of Curriculum Services. Rachel enjoys writing, reading, cooking and baking, and she considers herself to be an asset to any trivia team. Rachel shares our belief in strong writing skills being imperative to a student’s success. “With the increasing emphasis on STEM in both the classroom and workforce, writing and literacy skills are falling by the wayside, making 826’s mission more important than ever.”
Her favorite memory volunteering at 826? “I volunteered at the College Essay Boot Camp last October and helped two students craft their college essays. I loved hearing their stories and their hopes for the future.”
Thank you, Rachel, for your unbelievable volunteer spirit and your dedication to our work and our students. We hope you know how much we adore you and appreciate the contributions you have made to our programs.
