To\u00a0this end, we provide in-depth publishing projects.\u00a0<em>Attendance Would Be 100%\u00a0<\/em>is one of them.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the 2015-2016 school year, 826 Boston partnered with English Language Arts\/English as a Second Language teacher <a href=\"https:\/\/826boston.org\/redesign\/about\/\">Laura Gersch<\/a> and 56\u00a012<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0graders to publish a bilingual proposal for the High School Redesign Boston project. High School Redesign Boston was a city-wide effort to enlist the suggestions and support of stakeholders\u2014teachers and administrators, students, families, community partners and officials\u2014to inform the modernization of Boston high schools by the year 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>After engaging in a rigorous survey of education models and theories through texts from various media and class discussion, students audited their own school\u2014at the time, the only two-way English\/Spanish high school in Massachusetts. They then researched topics ranging from bilingual education and vocational schooling to &#8220;the city as a classroom.&#8221; In addition, each student\u00a0was\u00a0required to conduct an interview of project stakeholders, and to complete a school audit with fieldwork notes.<\/p>\n<p>In the project-based unit of study, students considered\u00a0essential questions including the following that have been identified by the Boston Public Schools (BPS) and the Mayor\u2019s Education Cabinet:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What should future high school graduates know and be able to do to succeed in life?<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What does the high school learning experience need to look like in order to prepare all graduates for future success?<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Working side-by-side with 826 Boston staff and volunteer tutors, student teams wrote\u00a0persuasive pieces that supported the collective class proposal. At the end of the process, <a href=\"https:\/\/826boston.org\/redesign\/letter-from-the-student-editorial-board\/\">an editorial board of seven students<\/a>\u00a0met<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0to discuss and consult on each of their classmate\u2019s portfolios, and to help make selections for publication.
