826 Boston opens sixth Writers’ Room—and first in Hyde Park

March 31, 2025

826 Boston celebrated the opening of our sixth Writers’ Room with a ribbon-cutting at New Mission High School in Hyde Park on March 20, 2025. The event was attended by students and teachers at New Mission, Co-Head of School Karen Loughran, City Councilor Enrique Pepén, State Representative Rob Consalvo, and members of the 826 Boston Board.

Although the Writers’ Room opened its doors to students this school year, 826 Boston has partnered with New Mission since 2021. The 826 Boston team has supported every graduating class and New Mission students have been published in three city-wide student-authored anthologies: What if the World Needs You?, What My Future Will Hold, and Songs of My Future.

During the ceremony, Writers’ Room Manager Kassy Edouard welcomed everyone, including student speakers Emely, Eloise, and Atekha, who shared pieces written with guidance from the Writers’ Room team. Jennifer Dines, New Mission teacher for English as Second Language (ESL), and Karen Loughran, New Mission Co-Head of School, also shared remarks during the event.

The creation of this first Writers’ Room in Hyde Park was made possible through generous multi-year funding from an anonymous donor and the Farlight Foundation.
