After attending the state-wide slam poetry competition Louder Than a Bomb, 826 Boston poets made an appearance at the Boston Public Schools’ spring open house a few weeks ago, participating in a spoken word performance entitled “My Pen. My Word. My Future.” The showcase was emceed by two local slam poets, Michelle Garcia and Dubem Okafor, and was attended by many community members. Students from Boston middle and high schools read 22 poems in 90 minutes, demonstrating their unique voices, powerful stories, and astute perspectives on how to change the world.

The open house also included a crash course in coding, panel discussions about various aspects of the Boston Public Schools, and an art show. We’re so glad our students were able to be a part of this event and to show off some of the writing projects they’ve been working on!
