On a bright and sunny evening on April 17, more than 160 runners showed up ready to break a light sweat for youth literacy. Now in its eighth year, 826 Boston hosted the Half Half Half Half Half Marathon—the 0.826-mile race that supports our free writing and tutoring programs while bringing the community together for a fun-filled evening.

This year, every participant earned a gold medal in fundraising. We surpassed our $25,000 goal, raising more than $30,000 (and counting…you can still donate here!) in support of 826 Boston’s programs.

Students Tej and Charles from the Dr. Albert D. Holland High School of Technology Writers’ Room served as our dynamic emcee duo, with remarks from State Representative Samantha Montaño—this year’s Grand Marshal—who also blew the bike horn to start the race. Boston City Councilor Benjamin Weber joined the fun and challenged all runners under the age of 10 (reports suggest he did not, in fact, come out ahead).

Prizes were awarded to the top individual fundraiser, top fundraising team, race finisher, closest time to 8:26, best costume, and best finish line pose.

We were thrilled to partner with Sorbae Frozen Treats, who brought their cart to offer refreshing snacks and generously donated a portion of their proceeds to the marathon total.

The festivities aren’t over yet! Our friends at Said and Done Tattoo in Jamaica Plain are hosting a tattoo flash sale on May 4, 2025, with a portion of the proceeds going toward our marathon goal. That same day, Hand the Light by C.S.E. will lead a cozy springtime candle-making session at the 826 Boston Tutoring Center (3035 Washington Street, Roxbury, MA 02119)—also benefiting our fundraising total. Multiple time slots are available, and you can reserve your spot here.

A special thanks to our sponsors: Bookbub, Tres Gatos, Brookline Booksmith, JP Dental, City Feed and Supply, Said and Done Tattoo, Amy Light from Muncey Group Real Estate, Trillium Brewing, Dr. Anna Vishart Digital Dental Studio, Ellen + Janis at the Denman Group, and Papercuts JP
