Join 826 Boston on Thursday, Nov 21, 2024 at 7:00 PM at our tutoring center in Roxbury for a screening of Annie Weatherwax’s captivating short film Monster in a Dress. After the film, stick around for a lively discussion with the filmmaker and 826 Boston youth to gain insight into the creative process behind the movie.
Annie Weatherwax spent her early career as an artist sculpting superheroes and cartoon characters. Included in her portfolio are characters from Nickelodeon, DC Comics, and Pixar. Her debut novel, All We Had, was a finalist for the Massachusetts Book Award and is now a major motion picture from Tribeca films. In 2017 she received The Hamilton Life Achievement Award for individuals with dyslexia. Monster in a Dress, a semi-autobiographical story about her struggle growing up as a girl who didn’t act like one, is her latest project.
Following the screening, there will be a youth-led discussion with Weatherwax and an opportunity to support the programming of 826 Boston. Wine and refreshments will be provided.
