Twenty-one students in the eleventh grade at Boston International Newcomers Academy (BINcA) wrote this cookbook, The Native People Know What I’m Talking About, in the fall of 2020. The students wanted to share recipes that brought them comfort and connected them to their families and cultures. In the words of Editorial Board members Lami and Chiruza, “We hope this book shows people how some foods are important to some countries and why. And we also hope they can try out and feel the same things we feel when we make our food.”
