College Essay Boot Camp

On Saturday, October 17th, from 10am-4pm, Boston will partner with Northeastern University for the sixth annual College Essay Boot Camp! At the event, 100 college-bound Greater Boston high school students are matched with trained tutors to receive one-on-one writing support with their college essays. Students can brainstorm, draft, or revise their college application essay, take tours of Northeastern’s campus, and find out more about scholarship programs. Breakfast and a pizza lunch are also included – all for free!

Here are some facts about the 2014 event:

  • 60% of students who attended had parents who were born outside of the United States;
  • 45% of students reported that they would be the first in their families to attend college;
  • 40% of students had not started their essays prior to College Essay Boot Camp…
  • and 75% of students left College Essay Boot Camp with a 1st, 2nd, or final draft in hand.
