Muñiz High School Redesign Book Project Launch

Join us on October 21st for the book launch and panel discussion for our latest Young Authors’ Book Project! This school year, 826 Boston is partnering with Margarita Muñiz Academy and the school’s first graduating class to publish a bilingual proposal for the High School Redesign Boston project. Students will investigate and respond to the essential questions posed by the Boston Public Schools and the Mayor’s Education Cabinet:

  • What should future high school graduates know and be able to do to succeed in life?
  • What does the high school learning experience need to look like in order to prepare all graduates for future success?

To kick off the project, BPS and City of Boston officials involved in High School Redesign Boston will visit the Muñiz to meet with students and serve on a panel of guest speakers.

Our panelists include:

  • Rahn Dorsey Chief of Education, City of Boston
  • Dan French Executive Director, Center for Collaborative Education
  • Naia Wilson Headmaster, New Mission High School
  • Jimmy Díaz 12th grade student, Margarita Muñiz Academy

For this 826 Boston Young Authors’ Book Project, students will audit their own school, assess different models at other Boston-area high schools, and research topics such as bilingual education, vocational schooling, and “the city as a classroom.” The final product will be a professionally designed collection of persuasive essays, interviews, and student artwork.

The panel will take place at Margarita Muñiz Academy in Jamaica Plain on Wednesday, October 21st, from 10:30-11:45am. Questions can be directed to Jessica Drench, Associate Director or call 617.442.5400.
