Introducing Our Newest Book Projects

June 23, 2015

Our two Young Authors’ Book Projects are hot off the presses! Each year, we spend time in the Boston Public Schools helping a full class brainstorm, write, and edit a collection of original work–which we then publish and celebrate with a book party.

On Monday, June 15th, we held a release party at the Boston Teachers Union School to fete Things Will Get Better & More Delicious: Stories from Our Lives So Far. With a foreword by Sandra Cisneros, the book features stories written by 40 7th graders from the BTU School. Students explore memoir in multiple forms and genres, including a conversation between the Dominican Republic and Boston, a recipe for love and family, and a 7th-grade survival guide. Check out the book in our store!

I Rate Today a -1000: Diary Entries about Days Good & Bad from Across Time & Space is written and illustrated by students from both of our after-school sites, with a foreword from Diary of a Wimpy Kid super-star Jeff Kinney. Inspired by Kinney’s diary-style comics, our after-school writers developed unique characters and worlds, from dish-washing robots to kids with astounding mechanical legs. On Wednesday, June 17th, Kinney spoke at our release party about the importance of not giving up as a writer. Be sure to check out the book in our store!
