On May 10, 826 Boston and the Boston International Newcomers Academy (BINcA) graduating class of 2018 celebrated the release of Like the Sun in Dark Spaces: Narratives Across Generations and Continents, featuring a foreword by Boston’s Poet Laureate Danielle Legros Georges.
BINcA is the only Boston public school that serves a population of 100% English Language Learner students, all of whom have arrived in the United States in the last four years. Ms. Legros Georges writes, “This book is born of not one but a series of beautiful, thoughtful, and brave questions—and the ensuing dialogues between its young contributors and the multi-generational family members and friends they interviewed.”We feel so lucky to work with such talented students and with passionate teachers Kristin Russo and Jessica Jusczyk, who led the project. Special thanks to Professor Noora Lori and the Boston University Pardee School Initiative on Forced Migration and Human Trafficking (FMHT) for hosting the event.
