Yesterday’s guilty verdicts in the Derek Chauvin trial mark a different ending than we have come to expect. This verdict matters. It’s an important step toward accountability. But the verdict doesn’t change the violence perpetrated against Black lives or the deep work that needs to be done to root out centuries of systemic racism and white supremacy. We must continue our daily work to become anti-racist—as an organization, as individuals, and as a country.
At 826 Boston, we are committed to centering the voices of young people of color. We stand with our Black colleagues, students, and community members and we will continue to provide safe spaces where students can write stories exploring their hopes, fears, identities, and dreams.
