Volunteer Appreciation Event 2026

April 21, 2026

On Thursday, April 9, 2026, the Volunteer Management Team hosted our inaugural Volunteer Appreciation Event at the 826 Boston Tutoring Center in Roxbury. The event was open to volunteers, students, and families, and all were encouraged to bring a friend to introduce to the 826 Boston community.

Those in attendance got to enjoy a wonderful dinner catered by Las Palmas and Pika Pollo, take part in a zine-making activity, and participate in a Jeopardy trivia game hosted by our very own Community Engagement Coordinator, Ana Flood. Guests were also able to enter into a raffle, receiving prizes such as a JP Licks gift card and a year-long membership to the Coolidge Corner Theatre.

The night wrapped up with a volunteer awards ceremony hosted by Boston International Newcomers’ Academy from grade 12, Rickelson, who introduced our volunteers receiving awards such as “Biggest Heart,” “Most Likely to Reply,” and “The OB Super Special Awesome Sparkly Spectacular Culinary Creativity Bing Bang Boom Shakalaka Award.” Award prizes included 826 Boston student publications, author-signed books from 826 Boston author friends, and gift cards to local Boston vendors.

The following volunteers received the respective appreciation awards:

Greatest Motivator: Jenny Weeks

Star Teen Tutor: Liv Klawiter

This event served as an opportunity for 826 Boston to properly highlight and acknowledge the volunteers that keep our programs running so efficiently. It also allowed volunteers and students from different programs to meet each other and interact when they might not get the chance to do so otherwise.
