Dear 826 Boston community,
Sunset on April 12 marked the beginning of Ramadan, the ninth and most holy month of the Islamic calendar. It is celebrated as the month during which Muhammad received the initial revelations of the Quran. Until sunset on May 12, Muslims around the world will celebrate Ramadan by fasting from sunrise to sunset and through introspection and prayer. It is a time of self-restraint and self-reflection, a time to grow in faith and “moral excellence” (Islamic Networks Group).
This Ramadan, we celebrate the voices of Muslim communities. These books, podcasts, and TV shows, are only a small portion of the art created by, for, and about Muslims, but it is our hope that these “readings” will inspire you to continue your own learning and explore the rich world of Islam.
Warmly,
The 826 Boston Cultural and Community Learning Committee
